Overview. MexArt participants take daily Spanish classes with either art or dance courses. Art students choose one focus area and one or two electives from the following selections: painting, drawing, ceramics, photography, printmaking, color and design, welding and silver jewelry.
MexArt Summer Teen Institutes are one-month programs where students may focus on art or dance and Spanish language while immersed in Mexican culture. Set in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, students live in a central B&B with experienced counseling staff.
Teen Courses Each half-day or full-day course provides a different imaginative environment in which teens expand their creative minds and build technical skills. Students experience RISD’s unique facilities, and are taught by outstanding educators.
Teen Ambassadors Program: African Art. The Teen Ambassadors is the National Museum of African Art’s signature teen program. It’s an opportunity for teens in the D.C. metro area with an interest in the arts, culture and history of Africa to learn to serve as frontline interpreters at the museum.

Directors. Carly Cross is director and founder of MexArt, the only summer institute for teens in Mexico. She was raised in Philadelphia and Virginia Beach, graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy and from McGill University where she majored in oboe performance and psychology.
The six-week summer residential Pre-College Program offers 16- to 18-year-old high college students a comprehensive introduction to the college art college experience. Students follow a college-like studio curriculum and live in RISD residence halls, in a full-immersion encounter with art and design education at the highest level.
