Sex and the City is an American cable television program based on the book of the same name by Candace Bushnell. It was originally broadcast on the HBO network from 1998 until 2004. Set in New York City , the show focuses on the sex lives of four female best friends, three of whom are in their mid-to-late thirties, and one of whom is in her forties.

The result is that by the time the sensitive men appear on the scene, the women have become insensitive, too, and incapable of appreciating them.
Consistently, Sex and the City derides women who impulsively jump into bed and then complain about men’s bad character. The women in the show, it is clear, have given up the opportunity to get to know these men better.
“Sex and the City” was liberated from closure, turning “once upon a time” into a wry mantra, treating its characters’ struggles with a rare mixture of bluntness and compassion.
